Hypnosis is an educational and self-improvement process that facilitates access to a person's internal resources to assist in solving problems, increasing motivation, or altering behavior patterns to create positive change. Simply, it is learning to use the power of your own subconscious mind to achieve your goals. It has been used effectively for centuries and is recognized today as an important adjunct for medical and mind-body issues.  The powerful techniques of hypnosis make it easy for you to succeed and evolve to your next level. Through hypnosis, you discover important keys to your hidden potential.  You experience surprising ease and joy in your life.  You find struggles and challenges simply fall away, like clothes you have outgrown. You take positive steps toward creating the life you desire and deserve.  And it is all done with the power of your own subconscious mind.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a relaxed state of focused attention into which you can naturally shift. In this state, you experience deep relaxation of the body and conscious mind. This allows access to deeper parts of yourself than are normally available. While in hypnosis, you gain clarity, insight, and a profound connection with yourself. By using these naturally occurring states, you harness your powerful subconscious mind to achieve your goals, better understand your habits, behaviors, and emotions, and expand your physical well-being. This allows a balancing of body, mind and spirit to create a happier, more satisfying, and peaceful life.  return

Why use Hypnosis?

Research has shown that hypnosis is an excellent complement to medical treatment. Hypnosis, a technique practiced for thousands of years, was approved by American Medical Association as a viable healthcare practice in 1958 because it accesses the power of the subconscious mind to achieve a desired and specific outcome. A suggestion given during hypnosis is much stronger then a command given in a conscious state. Furthermore, a person’s consistent and reoccurring positive reaction to a suggestion while in hypnosis can actually change their behavior and become a permanent habit.  return

What does Hypnosis Feel Like?

Since the hypnotic state is such a natural state, many people may not notice a difference in how they feel during hypnosis. For instance, have you ever been so absorbed in something that you lost track of time? That is a light trance state which we go into naturally every day. It is all that is necessary for hypnosis to be successful. A deeper trance feels similar to the state that occurs just before drifting off to sleep. During hypnosis, you often experience a deep sense of relaxation of your body and mind. During this time your body may feel very heavy like it is sinking into the chair or very light like it is floating or you may lose conscious awareness of your body. You may remain aware of the noises and activities around you but they do not disturb your tranquility. You have heightened attention, imagination and receptivity. It allows you to experience feelings, thoughts, images, and memories with more clarity and absorption.  return

Is it Safe?

The way hypnosis is portrayed in television, movies and stage hypnotism create misconceptions about what hypnosis really is. The media?s portrayal of hypnosis is often sensationalized for the purposes of entertainment. Individuals who participate in stage hypnotism are doing so because they want to be part of the show. Hypnosis is merely a tool that you can learn and use to access your powerful subconscious mind. One cannot be hypnotized against his or her will because entering a trance requires a willing participation and intention. You are always in complete control. An individual can choose to come out of the hypnotic state at any time simply by making the choice and opening his or her eyes.  return

Is it Effective?

    The American Psychiatric Association
    The American Medical Association

What are Hypnosis Sessions Like?

I use a client-centered approach which is tailored to the individual’s goals, preferences and beliefs. The client actively participates in the direction of the session. This allows the client’s innate wisdom to unfold and self-healing to occur.

Consultation Session

The consultation session is a free 15-20 minute session during which you learn about hypnosis, how hypnosis works with the mind and the benefits of using hypnosis.  Your first session can follow the consultation.

If your issue is medical, you will ask your physician’s approval to use hypnosis in addition to medical treatment.

A Typical Session

Sessions begin with a detailed interview so that I can fully understand your goals. Getting to know you is essential for tailoring suggestions to your needs and your goals.

As the hypnosis work begins, I gently guide you on a relaxing journey to a safe place within. This can be somewhere you have been or an imaginary place. This starting point allows you to relax into the process, knowing you can return to this safe place at any time. The body of the hypnosis work depends entirely upon the goals for the session.

What is Self-Hypnosis?

In a sense, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Even when a hypnosis practitioner is directing the process, the client’s intention and focus are what make the hypnosis state possible. There are many ways to practice hypnosis on your own. It can be as simple as following the rhythm of your breath until you are very relaxed.   Here is a simple exercise to give you an experience with self-hypnosis.

     1.  Sit in a comfortable chair where you will not be disturbed.

     2.  Find a spot on the ceiling at which to stare.  Open your eyes very wide, breathe in deeply, exhale slowly and say “Relax”.  Keep your eyes wide open.  Repeat this twice more noticing that with each breath your eyelids grow more heavy and tired, wanting to close.  On the third exhalation, let your eyes close and notice how relaxed you feel.

     3.  Repeat a short phrase at least three times.   (Example:  “More and more, I am comfortably relaxed.” or “More and more now, I feel calm and peaceful”.)

     4.  Enjoy this peaceful experience for a moment.  When you are ready, slowly count from 1 to 3.  On 3, open your eyes, take a deep breath and smile.
Now notice how relaxed and focused you feel.  Relaxation feels great and is very important for your well-being. Hypnosis teaches you how to relax at will.
